The Multiple Sclerosis Center Noord Nederland (MSCNN) is a collaborative setting of MS research and patient care between the departments of Neurology and Biomedical Sciences of the UMC Groningen with Neurology departments of different hospitals in the Northern Netherlands. The Martini Hospital Groningen, the Ommelander Hospital in Scheemda, Frisius MC in Leeuwarden and Heerenveen, Wilhelmina Hospital Assen and the Treant Zorggroep with locations in Hoogeveen, Stadskanaal and Emmen are part of the MSCNN. In addition there is close involvement with the MSVN, regions Groningen/Noord-Drenthe and Friesland.
The goal of the MSCNN is to further improve care for patients with MS through close collaboration between the three participating hospitals. In addition, the expertise in MS research is bundled. The research of the MSCNN focuses on two themes: the causes and recovery options of the insulating layer around the nerves (myelin) and (the treatment of) the later progressive phase of MS.
